In December, Euromonitor International unveiled its annual compilation of the Top 100 City Destinations worldwide for 2023. This report utilized 55 metrics spanning six categories, encompassing tourism infrastructure, health and safety, sustainability, and tourism performance, among others.

Euromonitor International’s analysis also featured a top 10 ranking of global cities based on international arrivals.

“International travel exhibited robust recovery in 2023, witnessing a 38% surge in trip numbers, anticipated to reach 1.3 billion by year-end,” the report highlights.

New York City stood as the sole U.S. destination in Euromonitor International’s top 10 rosters. The metropolis welcomed 11 million arrivals, marking a 24% increase from 2022 to 2023.

“Consumers are anticipated to seek travel options offering value for money, driving demand for intraregional travel, particularly as travel decisions often involve discretionary spending,” remarks Nadejda Popova, Senior Manager at Euromonitor International, regarding the report’s insights. “Travelers will persist in favoring authentic, local experiences alongside sustainable tourism alternatives.”

In 2023, Istanbul, Turkey, claimed the title of the most popular city for international arrivals, welcoming a staggering 20.2 million visitors, marking a 26% increase from the previous year, as reported.

Renowned for its rich history, Istanbul boasts UNESCO World Heritage Sites such as the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and the Walls of Constantinople, among others.

According to National Geographic, the optimal times to experience Istanbul’s charm are during the spring or autumn months (April through May and September), when the city is less crowded compared to the bustling summer season.
